Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and HappyDale Holding LLC (“we”, “us”) about your use of Sigil. Sigil is the Discord bot that appears as SIGIL#8624, the sigilbot.io website, and the Sigil Pro subscription.

By adding Sigil to a Discord server, using a Sigil command, or subscribing to Sigil Pro, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Sigil.

We have tried to write this in plain English. Where a section sounds formal, it is because it needs to be clear in a dispute, not because we are trying to hide anything.

1. What Sigil is

Sigil does two things. Mostly it generates QR codes inside Discord, described in the rest of this section. It also sells physical products you design yourself, a hoodie pen holder and a custom sign, which have their own section 14 because a manufactured object needs different terms from a subscription.

Sigil generates QR codes inside Discord. You type /qr, a private panel opens, you set your link, and Sigil renders a code. The preview is visible only to you until you choose to post it to a channel.

There are two tiers.

Free. Unlimited plain black-and-white QR codes, generated in the official Sigil Discord server, with no watermark or caption on the image. No account and no card are needed. Free access is tied to that server; using Sigil elsewhere needs a paid plan.

Personal. $1.99 per month. It lets you use Sigil in any server you are in and in your DMs, and adds a logo embedded in the code, colors picked from a curated board where every pair is contrast-checked, module styles (Classic, Rounded, Dots, and Framed with a caption), a saved brand kit so later codes are branded automatically, and a history of your last 50 codes.

Server. $4.99 per month, per server. It turns Sigil on for everyone in that server, at five codes an hour each, and gives that server’s admins the full branded output. The plan belongs to the server, not to a person: it does not follow anyone into their DMs or into another server.

Before you ever see a code, Sigil decodes it itself and compares the decoded payload byte for byte against what you asked for. That check exists so a logo or color choice that would break scanning gets caught at generation time. It is a real check and it is the reason we built Sigil, but it is a check on the image we produced, not a promise about every scanner, camera, printer, screen, lighting condition, or surface in the world. See section 7.

2. Who can use Sigil

You need a Discord account in good standing, and you must be old enough to use Discord in your country. Your use of Discord is governed by Discord’s own terms, which are separate from ours. If Discord suspends or removes your access, we cannot restore it.

3. Acceptable use

You are responsible for what your codes point to. Do not use Sigil to create, post, or distribute a QR code that:

• leads to malware, a drive-by download, or anything designed to compromise a device
• leads to a phishing page, a fake login screen, or any attempt to trick someone into giving up credentials, money, or personal information
• impersonates a person, brand, or organization you are not authorized to represent
• points to content that violates Discord’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines
• points to content that is illegal where you or your audience are, including content that sexualizes minors
• infringes someone else’s copyright or trademark, including uploading a logo you do not have the right to use

You also agree not to attack or degrade the service. That means no attempts to overload, flood, or deny service to Sigil; no scraping, automating, or scripting around the Discord interface to send bulk requests; no probing for vulnerabilities, no attempts to break out of our rendering process, and no uploading files crafted to exploit an image decoder. Do not resell Sigil output as your own QR service, and do not try to reverse engineer the bot.

If you find a security problem, tell us on the support server instead of exploiting it. We will not be difficult about a good-faith report.

4. Your content and your rights

You keep everything you own. Links, logos, and brand colors you supply stay yours.

You give us a limited license to use what you upload only to run the service for you: to fetch the file, re-encode it, render your code, save your brand kit if you set one, and keep your recent history if you are a Pro subscriber. We do not use your logo or your links to market Sigil, and we do not sell them.

You confirm that you have the right to use any logo or artwork you upload.

The QR codes Sigil produces for you are yours to use. Sigil itself, including the bot, the website, the rendering pipeline, and the name, stays ours.

5. Subscription terms

Price and billing. Personal is $1.99 per month and Server is $4.99 per month per server. It is a recurring subscription. It renews automatically each month at the then-current price until you cancel. Taxes may be added depending on where you are.

Cancelling. You can cancel any time. When you cancel, Pro features stay active through the end of the period you already paid for, and then your account returns to the free tier. Nothing is deleted at cancellation beyond the Pro-only features going away.

Refunds. We do not refund partial months. If you cancel in the middle of a month, you keep Pro until that month runs out rather than getting money back for the unused days.

That said, we deal fairly. If Sigil was broken for a meaningful stretch of your billing period, if you were charged twice, or if you were charged after cancelling, contact us on the support server and we will make it right. We would rather fix a billing mistake than argue about $1.99.

Price changes. If we change the price of Pro, we will tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you, through the support server and the Discord panel. If you do not want the new price, cancel before it takes effect.

Payment processing. Payments are handled by a third-party payment processor. We do not hold your card number. The processor has its own terms and privacy policy, and those apply to the payment itself.

Feature changes. We may add, change, or retire individual Pro features as the product develops. If we remove something significant that you were relying on, we will say so in advance where we reasonably can.

6. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to Sigil if you break these terms, particularly section 3, or if your use puts the service or other users at risk.

Where it is reasonable, we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix it. For serious abuse, such as phishing, malware, or an attack on the service, we may act immediately and without notice.

If we terminate a paid account for abuse, we are not obligated to refund the remainder of that month.

You can stop using Sigil at any time. Remove the bot from your server, and run /sigil forget if you want everything we hold about you deleted. The one thing that command cannot delete immediately is an order we are still making, because we cannot post a parcel to an address we have erased; the Privacy Policy says exactly what happens to it and when.

7. What we do not promise

Sigil is provided “as is” and “as available”.

We built the decode-and-verify check because we think it is the right way to make QR codes, and it catches problems that other generators ship to the user. But we do not guarantee that every code will scan on every device, in every app, at every size, on every material, in every lighting condition. Printing, screen quality, camera hardware, damage, distance, and scanning apps are all outside our control. Test your code in the real setting before you put it in front of people. If a code matters, test it on the actual printed piece, at the actual size, with a few different phones.

We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error free, or that it will always be available. Sigil runs on Discord and other third-party infrastructure, and those can go down.

We are not verifying, endorsing, or monitoring the destinations your codes point to. A code generated by Sigil is not a statement by us that the link is safe or legitimate.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We make no claims about certifications, audits, or insurance, because we do not have any to claim. We are a small US LLC running a Discord bot, and we would rather say that plainly than imply otherwise.

Some places do not allow certain warranty disclaimers. If you live somewhere like that, the parts that cannot legally be disclaimed do not apply to you, and the rest of this section still stands.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows:

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost business, lost data, or reprinting and reprocurement costs, arising out of your use of Sigil.

Our total liability to you for any and all claims relating to Sigil is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you actually paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) twenty US dollars.

This is a low-cost consumer service. The limit reflects that. If you need contractual guarantees at a scale that this limit does not cover, Sigil is not the right tool for that job, and you should not rely on it as if it were.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

9. You are responsible for your codes

This is worth its own section because it is the point people miss.

Sigil encodes what you give it. If you enter a link, the code points to that link. We do not check whether the destination is safe, accurate, current, or yours. We do not check whether you have the right to use the logo you uploaded.

If someone scans your code and lands somewhere harmful, misleading, or infringing, that is on you, not on us. You agree to cover us for claims, losses, and reasonable legal costs that come from your codes, your uploads, or your breach of these terms.

10. Privacy, in short

The full details are in our Privacy Policy. The summary, for the QR bot: we store Discord user IDs and nothing else that identifies you. No emails, no names, no payment data held by us.

Buying the physical product is the exception, and it has to be. We cannot mail an object without an address. Stripe takes your card and passes us your name, your shipping address and your email so we can print the item, post it, and answer questions about it. We still never see your card number. Those shipping details are deleted 90 days after the order ships. Free-tier QR targets are kept for at most 24 hours. Pro history keeps your last 50 codes while you are subscribed. Running /sigil forget deletes everything Sigil holds about you.

Uploads are PNG or JPEG only, SVG is refused, files are fetched only from Discord’s own CDN, size and dimensions are capped, and every image is re-encoded to clean pixels with metadata stripped. Rendering runs in an isolated, resource-capped process separate from the bot.

11. Changes to these terms

We will update these terms as the product changes. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top and post the new version at sigilbot.io.

For changes that materially affect you, such as new restrictions on use, a change to the subscription terms, or a price increase, we will give at least 30 days’ notice through the support server and the Discord panel before the change applies.

Continuing to use Sigil after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, stop using Sigil and cancel any subscription.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts located in Illinois, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer somewhere with laws that give you rights you cannot sign away, those rights still apply to you, and this section does not take them from you.

13. The usual closing bits

Whole agreement. These terms, plus the Privacy Policy and the Refunds and Cancellation policy, are the full agreement between you and us about Sigil, and they replace anything said before.

If part of this is unenforceable. If a court strikes a section, the rest still applies.

No waiver. If we do not enforce something right away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.

Transfers. You cannot transfer your rights under these terms to someone else. We may transfer ours if the business is sold or reorganized, and your terms carry over unchanged.

No partnership. Using Sigil does not make you our employee, agent, or partner.

14. Printed products (hoodie pen holders and custom signs)

Sigil can also sell you a physical thing, printed to order and paid through Stripe rather than through Discord. There are two:

• The hoodie pen holder, a 3D-printed hoodie that stands on your desk, with an emblem you design cut into the chest and filled with one colour of epoxy. $24.99, with free shipping in the continental United States.
• A custom sign, a flat plate carrying words you type, cut into the face and filled with epoxy the same way, in a size, shape and mounting you choose. Two sizes: $19.99 up to 120 mm on the longest side, $24.99 above that, up to 220 mm. Free shipping in the continental United States. The price you see before you pay is the one you are charged.

Everything in this section applies to both unless it names one of them.

Two tiers, decided by a measurement, not by a person. When you design the emblem the Studio measures whether every raised line is at least 1 mm wide, every gap at least 0.6 mm, and every piece large enough to survive the epoxy pour. If it passes, the order is Geometry passed: your design is inside the limits we print to and we make it as you drew it. That is a check on the design, not a warranty about every variable in a physical print; if our inspection or yours finds a defect, we reprint the item or refund you, your choice. If the design does not pass, the Studio says so on the design, in red, before you pay, and the order is Needs a review: you are charged at checkout, a person looks at it before printing, and we refund it in full if we cannot make it well. Either way you see which tier you are buying before you pay.

What we can cut, and what you upload. Emblem text uses the Latin alphabet: letters, numbers, punctuation and accented Latin characters such as é and ñ. The Studio refuses anything outside that, including Cyrillic, Greek and emoji, and it says so while you type rather than dropping the character quietly. Shapes and symbols from the Studio’s own library are fine. If you upload a logo or artwork, you promise that you own it or have permission to use it, and that putting it on a product you buy does not infringe anyone’s trademark or copyright. We do not sell products carrying other companies’ brands, and we may refuse or cancel any order for any reason and refund it. If someone tells us an emblem infringes their rights, we remove it and cancel any order that has not shipped.

Handmade, one at a time. These are printed on our own machine, poured by hand, and shipped from the USA to US addresses only. Shipping is free in the continental United States; for Alaska, Hawaii and US territories it is charged at checkout and shown before you pay. Typically 3 to 7 business days to make, then carrier time; Alaska, Hawaii and US territories can take longer, and we do not control carrier delays. Tracking reaches you in your Discord DMs, or on your order page if you bought from the website. Filament colour and epoxy colour are what you picked; small variations between the on-screen preview and the physical object are normal in a handmade item and are not a defect. A print that fails our own inspection is reprinted or refunded.

A change of mind, and when it stops being possible. This is made for you after you order, so there is nothing to restock. Tell us in the support server before your order page says Printing and we cancel it and refund you in full. Once printing has started we cannot refund a change of mind, because the object now exists and carries your design. That limit is about changing your mind only. A defect, or an item the carrier loses or damages, is reprinted or refunded regardless of what stage it reached.

The sign is our own design. Its geometry is generated by our own software from your words and the size you pick, so no third party’s model is involved and the paragraph below about licensed shapes does not apply to it. What you buy is the object; the words are yours.

The hoodie body is a licensed design; the emblem is yours. The pen holder’s shape is a third-party designer’s model, which we print and sell under a commercial licence from MakerWorld. That licence covers us making and selling the physical object. It does not transfer the design to you, and buying one does not give you the right to reproduce, redistribute or resell the model or its files. What you receive is the object. The emblem you designed stays yours, and section 4 covers it the same way it covers your QR codes.

15. Generated art, and who owns it

Several parts of Sigil make a picture from a description you type: emoji, stickers, role icons, flyers, and the emblem on a printed product. This section covers all of them.

What you make is yours. The images Sigil generates for you are yours to use, including commercially, on every tier. We do not charge a licence fee on top and we do not claim ownership of your output. We keep the right to run the service on your behalf, which is the same limited licence as section 4: to generate the image, store it while it is in your history, and show it back to you.

It is generated, so it varies. A model produces a different picture every time, even from the same words. We do not promise that any generation matches what you pictured, that a later one will resemble an earlier one, or that a particular style, subject or detail can be produced at all. You see the result before you commit to anything, and you can generate again. Nothing here is a warranty about the output, and section 8 applies to it in full.

It may resemble someone else’s. Two people describing the same thing can receive similar pictures, and neither of them did anything wrong. We cannot promise your output is unique, and we do not grant you exclusivity over it.

What you may not ask for. Do not use the generators to make anything you could not lawfully make yourself. That includes another company’s logo, trademark or brand identity; a real person’s likeness used to deceive; sexual content involving minors, which we report; content that harasses or threatens a person; and anything designed to impersonate, defraud or mislead. Section 3 applies to prompts exactly as it applies to everything else, and we may refuse or remove any generation and suspend the account behind it.

You are responsible for what you ask for, and for what you do with the result. You promise that your prompt and any image you upload are yours to use, and that the picture you take away does not infringe anyone’s rights. If a third party brings a claim against us because of what you asked Sigil to make or what you did with it afterwards, you agree to cover our reasonable costs in answering it. This does not apply to anything that is our fault rather than yours.

16. The assistant and the sales chat

Sigil includes an assistant inside the Studio and a chat on sigilbot.io that answers questions about the product. Both are language models, and both are wrong sometimes.

Treat what they say as a helpful starting point, not as a statement you can rely on. They are not legal, financial, medical, tax or professional advice of any kind. Where the assistant’s answer disagrees with these terms, the privacy policy, the refunds policy or a price shown on a product page, those documents are correct and the assistant is not, and we are not bound by a price, a date, a promise or an offer that only an assistant said. If something it tells you matters to a decision you are about to make, check it on the page or ask a person in the support server.

What you type into the chat is covered by the privacy policy, which explains what is kept, for how long, and that the model runs on our own machine rather than at an AI company.

17. Poker night, and the chips

/poker is a card game you play in your own Discord server with friends. It is free on every tier.

The chips are not money and never become money. You earn them by playing. They cannot be bought, sold, cashed out, transferred for anything of value, or exchanged for a product, a discount or a subscription, and we can reset or remove them at any time, including if we retire the game. They have no value outside the game and we do not treat them as if they do.

Nothing is wagered. There is no buy-in, no prize, no house take and no real-world stake of any kind. This is a game about the cards, not about money, and we do not operate a gambling service. Anything that would turn it into one, including selling chips or arranging side bets for real money or items, is a breach of section 3 and we will act on it.
