Is the free tier really free?
Yes. Unlimited plain black-and-white QR codes, no account and no card. The only difference is a small “made with Sigil” caption printed underneath the code, never on top of it, so it never touches the part a phone reads. If that caption is fine for you, you never have to pay us anything.
How does it actually work?
In Discord, type /qr and press Enter. A private panel opens, you set your link, and you press Generate. The preview is visible only to you, and nothing appears in the channel until you press Post to Channel.
What does Sigil Pro add?
Pro is $1.99 a month. You get your logo embedded in the code, colors picked from a curated board where every pairing has already passed a contrast check, four module styles (Classic, Rounded, Dots, and Framed with a caption), a saved brand kit so future codes come out branded automatically, history of your last 50 codes, and no caption under the code. Everything else, including the decode check, is the same on both tiers.
Do my codes expire?
No. A QR code is just an image that encodes your link directly. Sigil does not sit in the middle, does not redirect, and does not shorten anything, so there is no link of ours that can go dead. Your code keeps working as long as your own link works, and it would keep working even if Sigil disappeared tomorrow.
Can I use Sigil codes commercially?
Yes. Put them on business cards, packaging, signage, menus, event badges, ads, anything. The code is yours to use and you do not owe us a credit, though free-tier codes carry the small caption underneath. What you are responsible for is the link itself and your right to use any logo you upload.
What happens to my codes if I cancel Pro?
Every code you already made keeps working forever, because it is a finished image sitting on your computer or your printed material. Cancelling only turns off the Pro features going forward, so new codes come out plain with the caption again. Download anything in your history that you want to keep before you cancel.
Do you track who scans my codes?
No. We never see a scan, because the phone goes straight to your link and never passes through us. That is good for privacy, and we think it is the right default. Being honest about the tradeoff: it also means Sigil gives you zero scan analytics, so if you need scan counts you will want a link that already reports them, like your own short link or a page with your normal web analytics on it.
Why does my logo sometimes get rejected?
Every code Sigil makes is scanned by Sigil first, and the decoded result is compared byte for byte against the link you asked for. A logo that covers too much of the code, or lands on the parts a phone uses to orient itself, breaks that check. When it fails we tell you instead of handing you a code that dies at your event. Usually a smaller logo, a simpler shape, or higher contrast fixes it.
What files can I upload for a logo?
PNG and JPEG only. SVG is refused on purpose, because SVG files can carry scripts. We fetch the file only from Discord’s own CDN, cap the file size and dimensions, and re-encode it to clean pixels with all metadata stripped. Rendering happens in an isolated, resource-capped process that is separate from the bot.
Can I use Sigil in my own server?
Yes, you can add Sigil to any server where you have permission to add bots. The panel is private to whoever ran the command, so other members do not see your link or your preview. Nothing reaches the channel until you press Post to Channel.
Do you sell my data?
No. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or data brokers. There is not much to sell in the first place: Sigil stores your Discord user ID and nothing else about you. No email, no name, and no payment details are held by us.
How do I delete my data?
Run /sigil forget. That deletes everything Sigil holds about you, including your brand kit and your history. Even without it, free-tier QR targets are kept for at most 24 hours, and Pro history holds only your last 50 codes.
What if a code does not scan?
First try it at a larger size and from about a foot away, since a small print or a low-resolution screenshot is the usual cause. Check the printed contrast too, because dark ink on a light background is what phones read best. If the code still fails, bring it to the support server with the link you used, since our decode check is meant to catch exactly this and we want to see any case it missed.
Who is behind Sigil?
Sigil is built by HappyDale Holding LLC, a US company registered in Delaware. Support runs through the official Sigil Discord server, which is the fastest way to reach a human. The bot user is SIGIL#8624, so you can confirm you are talking to the real one.
